Savannah Food Co-op
Yesterday, I covered the farmer’s market experience. Today, I’m going to show you an amazing local food buyers club in Savannah.
The Savannah Food Co-op, started in May, 2008, is dedicated to helping Savannah families get healthy and sustainably-produced food and dry goods at affordable prices. They strive to purchase from local and regional suppliers as much as possible.
They currently offer primarily regional organic produce, Georgia-produced natural milk and butter, Georgia-produced organic pasture-raised ground beef, pork, and chicken, Georgia-produced artisanal pastured cheese, locally-caught wild Georgia shrimp, Midwest small-farm-produced organic yogurt, local pastured natural eggs, fair-trade organic locally-roasted coffee, locally produced natural soaps, and natural drugstore items.
They do offer produce boxes, but they are not a traditional “box service” – you do not need to order a box to order other items. After you join, you purchase items “a la carte.”; for example, you only have to purchase 1 tomato or one bunch of broccoli at a time.
Let me show you how the pick-up day at the Co-op works…
